Eleazar is a member of the Denali clan. He was originally a guard of the Volturi due to his ability to sense the abilities of other vampires and humans until he and Carmen joined the Denali sisters many years after the coven was established. Eleazar is a "vegetarian," although is wasn't always one. Edward said that even if they hadn't found the Denali Coven, both Eleazar and Carmen would have found another compassionate way to live their lives, one way or another.
